Welcome to the Witham Model Railway Society web site. We are a small, informal club whose members have an interest in Railways - both model and the 12 inch to the foot variety. We meet weekly and members often bring their latest models to show. Some people also bring current projects to work on.
Club members interests are mainly in the BR period - though we have one member who models LNER period. Within the BR period, members' interests currently cover ex GWR, LMS, LNER as well as BR Standards and Modernisation Plan Diesels. We have members who represent most of the common gauges - OO, EM, P4, O and Scaleseven are presently represented. There are also people who model road vehicles in 4mm/ft. Several members have their own layouts.
Although the club does not currently have a layout, there is a permanent test track with a continuous run of nearly 50ft available in both OO and P4 for members to run their models.
Club nights are an informal affair and members can choose whether to work on a current project, help expand the test track, run their models or just sit and chat. We meet weekly on a Monday evening from 2000 to around 2330 and tea or coffee is available. Although there are only about 10 members, they have a wide range of knowledge and experience of both model making and the prototype and are always willing to share this. We try to hold an open day annually to show our achievements to the general public. There are regular "car sharing" expeditions to exhibitions within a 50 mile radius and coach trips further afield that are organised by our friends at the Colchester Club.
Membership is open to anyone aged 16 or over, with a nominal annual subscription, which also covers the tea, coffee and heating. Bona fide members also qualify for a discount from selected local model railway shops. No previous experience is required but always welcomed.
